Fuel pressure relief procedure
Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable. See Fuel system warnings in Fuel and exhaust systems.
Note: After the fuel pressure has been relieved, it’s a good idea to lay a shop towel over any fuel connection to be disassembled, to absorb the residual fuel that may leak out when servicing the fuel system.
1. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the IPDM under hood fuse/relay box, located next to the battery (see illustration 2.2).
2. Start the engine and allow it to run until it stops. This should take only a few seconds. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery before working on the fuel system (see Engine electrical systems).
3. The fuel system pressure is now relieved. It is a good idea to surround any fuel line that will be disconnected with a shop rag to catch fuel that might spill out.
4. When you’re finished working on the fuel system, install the fuel pump fuse back into the fuse panel, connect the negative cable to the battery and perform the necessary relearn procedures (see Engine electrical systems).
